We are now using the Reform Movement’s inspirational new prayer books, Mishkan HaNefesh. If you’d like to honor special people in your life or remember loved ones no longer with us, we invite you to dedicate a prayer book with a bookplate.

The first name that appears in this precious heirloom, located in the back of the Montague Chapel, is that of Judah Touro, who died in 1854. He was the benefactor of many charitable and civic organizations, including the Touro Synagogue in Newport, and Ohabei Shalom. The pages of the Book of Remembrance are exquisitely decorated, and each name is inscribed in beautiful calligraphy. As with the yahrzeit plaques, names are automatically listed in the annual Scroll Book and in the appropriate Shabbat Bulletin each year.

Names may be inscribed on bronze plaques that are placed on the large tablets located in our main Sanctuary. Each memorial plaque is illuminated on the Shabbat evening and morning ending the week in which the yahrzeit occurred. The name is also listed in the Shabbat Bulletin that week, and in the Scroll Book, which is distributed on Yom Kippur (see above).
