“Finding Our Way: Jewish Perspectives on Medical Ethics” will explore how Judaism approaches some of modern medicine’s thorniest dilemmas. We will consider traditional and liberal perspectives on issues such as withdrawing and withholding medical treatment, artificial nutrition and hydration in persons with dementia, and physician assisted death. The course will be held via Zoom in two one-hour sessions and is co-sponsored by TOS and Shir Hadash.

Muriel Gillick, professor at Harvard Medical School, is a geriatrician and palliative care specialist. She has served as a clinical ethics consultant at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital, the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and at Hebrew Senior Life (then Hebrew Rehabilitation Center for Aged), where she chaired the Ethics Committee. She has written extensively on ethical issues near the end of life, both for a general and for a medical audience.
