The Diane K Trust Center for Early Education of Temple Ohabei Shalom provides the building blocks for each preschooler to develop a love of learning that will serve as the basis for a personal journey of discovery and wonder. Your child will participate in a program of individualized Activities, anchored in the developmental stages and needs of young children, in a nurturing Bayit (home)-like setting created by a team of caring and dedicated professionals, all within a Community that encourages Jewish identity and respect for social values. Through our individualized approach, each child will begin to build a strong and meaningful Jewish identity.
Activity
Young children learn about themselves and their world through everyday activities. Our hands-on, child-directed curriculum invites children to observe, make choices and experiment, thus developing a sense of competence and initiative. Play is "work" for young children and the basic ingredient of their learning. It is the medium for self-expression and the way each child organizes and makes sense of the world. To play is to invent, hypothesize, test, and discover and thus, it provides the most meaninful learning of cognitive concepts and social values.
In a warm and caring Jewish environment, our preschoolers learn about respectful listening, sharing, cooperating, thoughtful questioning and sensitivity toward others in their class and their community. Our students participate in rich literacy experiences, hands-on math and scientific inquiry, and are able to discover their own artistic and imaginative expression.
Social skills are achieved over time, through learning how to share, cooperate, and empathize with others. During play experiences, a child learns to initiate and sustain relationships with other, building trust and emotional maturity. We strive to nurture the child's most important skills and capabilities, in a fun, engaging way. Our philosophy is based on our understanding that each child develops at an individual pace.
Bayit (home)
The Center for Early Education of Ohabei Shalom offers a warm, safe, caring and creative Jewish environment where each child's individuality is valued and nurtured. Our state-of-the-art classrooms have been built to house a variety of learning centers where the children develop motor, cognitive and social skills. Our preschoolers treat the synagogue as an extension of their Jewish home and know our Rabbi and Cantor who are integral to our school. Feeling at home in the synagogoue not only gives children a sense of security, but also provides a seamless transition to religious school. Parental involvement is welcome, and many children and their families develop lifelong friendships through their preschool experience.
Community
The Center for Early Education is designed to make our children (and their families) feel safe, nurtured, stimulated, welcome and happy. Its extended hours and flexible schedule are designed to address the needs of contemporary working families. Our preschool nurtures the uniqueness of all children so that they can realize their highest potential. We believe that being part of a community should be fun, active, imaginative, playful and engaging, while building a strong foundation for future learning and living.
