To Honor and Remember...
Order Form
There are many ways to honor a loved one, commemorate a simcha or to celebrate a membership anniversary through donations to our varied funds or by one of the meaningful sponsorships listed below.
Scroll Book One of the most beautiful annual traditions at Ohabei Shalom is the listing of the names of our departed in the Scroll Book. This memorial booklet, endowed by the Beal Family, is distributed on Yom Kippur afternoon, before the Yizkor service. During the service, we read the names of our loved ones who died since last Yom Kippur and then place the booklet in the ark.
Minimum suggested donation: $18 (for those who are not yet members of the Congregation, $36)
Yahrzeit Plaques Loved ones’ names may be inscribed on bronze plaques that are placed on the large tablets located in our main Sanctuary. Each memorial plaque is illuminated on the Shabbat evening and morning ending the week in which the yahrzeit occurs (on the Hebrew or civil date, according to the wishes of the family). The name is also listed in the Shabbat Bulletin that week, in the Scroll Book, which is distributed on Yom Kippur (see above), and in the appropriate edition of the monthly Tidings.
$720 (for those who are not yet members of the Congregation, $1,200)
Book of Remembrance
The first name that appears in this precious heirloom is that of Judah Touro, who died in 1854. He was the benefactor of many charitable and civic organizations, including the Touro Synagogue in Newport and the Bunker Hill Monument in Boston. He also bequeathed a generous sum to Ohabei Shalom, the first (and until that very year, the only) synagogue in Massachusetts. The pages of the Book of Remembrance are exquisitely decorated, and each name is inscribed in beautiful calligraphy. As with the yahrzeit plaques, names are automatically listed in the annual Scroll Book and in the appropriate Shabbat Bulletin and Tidings newsletter each year.
$360 (for those who are not yet members of the Congregation, $540)

Mishkan T'Filah: Shabbat Prayer Book This year we are introducing a new prayer book, Mishkan T'Filah.
