    Staff : Michael Simmons, Executive Director, msimmons@ohabei.org 

    Michael SimmonsBorn in Boston, Massachusetts, Michael Simmons attended Northeastern University (Hebrew College and the University of Tel Aviv) and received a B.A., in Government & Community Relations and a Masters of Public Administration.  

    During this time, Michael served as the New England Coordinator of the Student Struggle for Soviet Jewry, was the youngest member serving on the CJP Board of Trustees and Jewish Community Council of Greater Boston, and was the Editor of Jewish Boston 1972-1973 

    During a 15 year span, Michael served as Director of Administration of the Massachusetts Office of Management Information Systems, Financial Systems Manager for the Massachusetts Department of Public Welfare and Director of the Office of Administration and Data Processing for the Massachusetts Department of Industrial Accidents. He was also an Adjunct Professor at Northeastern University Graduate School and Lesley College Graduate School.  

    After serving as President of Temple Israel of Sharon, Michael decided to combine his love for Judaism and dedication to Synagogue life with his professional expertise in administration. Since 1991, Michael has served as Executive Director of the West End Synagogue in Nashville, Tennessee, Temple B’nai Aviv in Weston (Ft. Lauderdale), Florida and Congregation Har Shalom in Potomac, Maryland.  Of note, Michael is certified as a Fellow in Synagogue Administration (FSA) and is the 4th Executive Director to be commissioned as an Amin Tzibur (ATz), “one who faithfully devotes oneself to the ministration of the community and the rebuilding of Eretz Yisrael.” For more than 25 years, he has attended and presented at many International, North American, and Regional Conventions, Conferences, and Leadership Training Institutes. 

    Having dedicated his life to serving the Jewish Community, Michael has served the Jewish Community as a Youth Advisor, Youth Director, a Religious School Teacher, a Youth Service Leader, an Adult Service Leader, a Mashgiach, a Jewish Cemetery Executive Director, a Synagogue President, and a Synagogue Executive Director. 

    Michael and his wife, Gail Provizer-Simmons, have been married 38 years and have three children. Gail is an Educational Toys Salesperson and a Jewelry Designer.

Her first year she worked as a nurse assistant for residents with Alzheimer's Disease. Working for Temple Ohabei Shalom has made Gila's move a lot easier.
