Educators : Shari Churwin, Education Director , schurwin@ohabei.org
Shari has worked
at Ohabei Shalom for more than seventeen years in many different educational
positions including Education Administrator, Youth Educator, and Family
Educator. She now serves as our Education Director helping to direct our vision
of Jewish Education as we enter the 21st century.
She recently
completed a Masters Degree in Jewish Education and also holds a Certificate in
Jewish Family Education from Hebrew College.
Shari is a member of the National
Association of Temple Educators (NATE) the
National Association Education of Young People (NAEYC) and the Early Childhood
Educators of Reform Judaism (ECE-RJ).
Shari
is a graduate of Indiana University with a Bachelors Degree in Jewish Studies
and Sociology. In 1994 she studied at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem,
taking courses in Jewish Education, modern Jewish culture and Jewish history.
While in Israel Shari was a Lainer intern (sponsored by the Jewish Education
Service of North America – JESNA) at the National Federation of Temple Youth
(NFTY) office in Jerusalem and led a six week tour of Israel for 40 Midwestern
High School Students. Shari
has worked at various synagogues in the Boston area as a formal and informal
educator for both school-aged children and adults. She has worked in a variety
of camp settings and has served as a part of the administration of several
camps including Camp Breakaway, a camp for underprivileged Jewish children and
currently is the Program Director of Camp Micah, New England’s newest Jewish
summer camp.
Shari and her husband, Mike, have three beautiful
daughters, Hannah, Ashley and Julia (who both learned how to ride a 2-wheeler
without training wheels this summer).
Educators : Danna Perry, Education Programs Coordinator , dperry@ohabei.org
Having been raised in Brookline, Israeli-born Danna Perry is thrilled to be
"home" after having spent a majority of her adult life in Manhattan,
followed by short stints living on the water on both Cape Cod and in Nassau,
Bahamas. Danna honed her keen administrative and organizational skills working
as a gatekeeper for several high-profile, New York personalities and left her
most recent position (and most difficult!) at her husband's restaurant company
to join the Ohabei Shalom family. Her most
rewarding role as mother of two beautiful, young children has given new meaning
to many of Danna's professional abilities as a detail-driven, multitasking,
problem-solver with a sense of humor. Danna received her BA in Political
Science from Barnard College. She has
spent much of her free time over the past 18 months subbing in her children's
preschool classrooms, chairing school committees and being late to the
occasional yoga class.
Educators: Larisa Klebe, Youth Educator , lklebe@ohabei.org
Larisa Klebe grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and moved to
Massachusetts in 2007 to attend Brandeis University. She graduated from
Brandeis in 2011 with her BA in History and European Cultural Studies, and a
minor in Music. Throughout her years at Brandeis, Larisa was heavily involved
in the Brandeis Reform Chavurah (BaRuCH). She served two years on the executive board for BaRuCH, one as a
T’fillah Coordinator, and the other as the Publicity/Communications
Coordinator. She hopes to incorporate these experiences into her work as Youth Educator. Besides being involved in Jewish life, Larisa is
also very passionate about singing and music. She spent 11 years in the
Peninsula Girls Chorus in California, and the last 4 years as a member of the
Brandeis University Chorus and Chamber Choir. Besides a classical music
background, she has also accumulated a vast knowledge of Jewish music which she looks forward to sharing. Larisa is very excited to be
the new Youth Educator, and is thrilled to have the opportunity to become part of the community.
